Coast and Country Holidays purchased this building in Market Street, Newport in June 2012. The property is situated in the middle of Market Street, just below Newport Castle. Since being here we have discovered that the property was originally a grocers shop, called Bowen Brothers. In 1970 it was sold to Mr Dodds who altered it into a book shop, it ran as book shop until about 2007 when it briefly became a restaurant, called the 'Mochyn Drwg'. After purchasing the property we had to convert it into office space, many of the local people kept popping in to see our progress and encourage us, there was much discussion about what name we would use for the premises, so by popular request we decided to change the name to "The Old Bookshop, Market Street, Newport".
Market street is always busy and ever changing with most of Newport's small shops being situated in the street, these comprise of Fronlas Cafe, Ty Twt (Doll's house museum), Newport Pharmacy, Paul the Butchers', Spar grocers and last but not least Coast and Country Holidays. Monday morning the local market takes place along the street between 9am and 1pm. Apart from Monday morning when there is no parking available, there is limited parking for up to 1 hour in the street, alternatively there is a car park in Long street.
