“Wow what a stunning place to stay, the small village at the bottom of the valley surrounded by woodlands is the perfect place to spend a weekend, we wish we could have stayed much longer.”

The cottage is so warm and cosy and very well looked after and extremely clean. The kitchen has everything you will need and was the room the family spent the most time in playing games and relaxing as it is a very big space, the sofa in the kitchen is a nice little touch. The bedrooms are all a great size with plenty of storage for clothes and the beds extremely comfortable. The WIFI was signal is very good and had no issues dealing with 5 devices connecting, again very happy kids. Overall, this is a stunning place to stay and cannot recommend highly enough. Only 20 mins away from the stunning Elan Valley and 20 mins away from nearest supermarket. All instructions from the host were very clear to understand and easy to follow. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and they also run the pub next door. There was no noise issues from the pub at all and if we had more time we would most certainly have popped in for a drink after exploring the many woodland trails on the door step. We loved our long weekend here and cannot recommend it highly enough, one of the best cottage stays we as a family have experienced as a family of 7.

About the location

ABBEYCWMHIR

Rhayader 6 miles; Llandrindod Wells 10 miles.

Abbeycwmhir ('abbey in the long valley') is a peaceful, picturesque and historic village, which nestles in the lovely Radnorshire Hills and stands on Glyndwr's Way national walking trail. This tranquil village is home to the well known ruins of a Cistercian Abbey founded in 1176, with its local CADW Interpretation Centre, The Hall, an impressive country mansion with lovely gardens, which are all open to the public, and the Happy Union Inn, which is an old fashioned ale house. There is wonderful walking and cycling from the village, with trails and paths meandering their way through woodland and along rivers, or for more challenging terrain, simply drive the short distance to the nearby Cambrian Mountains or the spectacular Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons). Visit Llandrindod Wells, Rhayader or Builth Wells to find a variety of shops, museums, craft centres, pubs, tea rooms and restaurants. Visit the Red Kite Feeding Station at Rhayader, which offers a fantastic opportunity to see these beautiful birds at close range, take a trip to the peaceful Elan Valley Lakes, the Gilfach Nature Reserve or test your nerve at the Phil Price Rally School or the Underhill Farm Horse Riding School. A perfect base for a family holiday or a romantic break in a lovely peaceful location.
