“If you're looking for a quiet and very comfortable place amidst the rolling hills of mid-Wales, do book the Halfen Granary -- you won't be disappointed.”
We (two adults and two children) had a lovely stay here, just after lockdown ended and holiday cottages like this reopened. The lodge itself is nicely appointed, with a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable furniture, etc. But the real pleasure is the setting: near enough to villages that getting groceries isn't too annoying, but far from any major roads or towns, situated in beautiful farmland. Each evening, we would sit on the balcony attached to the master bedroom and look out over the hills and pastures; at night, there was no road noise at all, just the bleating of sheep and an occasional cow. The sky was pitch-dark. Our kids also loved running around in the enclosed garden (which adjoins the fields). The hosts were very pleasant and accomodating, and have adapted well to the "new normal" -- e.g., although they had removed all the loose-paper handouts (maps, tourist brochures, etc) that would have been there before, they had laminated a selection of these and cleaned them prior to our arrival. Similarly, though they had removed many of the books and games that would have been in the house before Covid-19, they gave us a complete list of what was available on request (and had a smaller, rotating selection of books, movies, etc stocked for us). During the days, we typically lounged around the house in the morning and did little excursions -- Powis castle, the Llanfair Caereninion railway, etc -- in the afternoon. Overall, we had a fantastic time and would return in an instant.
