The historic village of Churchstoke was originally mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, while today it is a quiet village surrounded by scenic countryside, on the English/Welsh border. It boasts a supermarket, two pubs and an historic church. A few miles away, Montgomery is a small town steeped in history, with many timber-framed houses, cobbled streets, a museum and the ruins of a 13th Century hill-top castle which provides panoramic views over Wales. There are a handful of delightful individual shops and a good variety of pubs and restaurants There are many walking and cycling opportunities in the area with the Offa's Dyke Path following the border between England and Wales. A few miles to the South is the historic market town of Bishop's Castle, an excellent place for a day or night out with its excellent pubs, live music and festivals throughout the year.
