“Alot of positives regarding location, general upkeep of the property , the views across the gardens outstanding, However we had to cut short our holiday and returned on Wed 25th of August , our son has asthma , from the friday to the wed he got through four unhalers, up to our stay no problems after our stay no problems , there is a de - humidifer in the property which is on continiuse with signage do not to turn off , this must be related to a damp atmoshphere in the property , which is not good for asthma suffers, and should have been made clear on the property information, also in the the bedroom ( double and Single) there was a musty smell .”
I am seeking some form of compansation for this , after waiting nearly 2 years for this break only to be cut short by the above events.
We are surprised and disappointed to hear that you left the cottage early, cutting short your holiday.
Regarding your comments about possible damp and a musty smell, please note that last winter, as part of a major overall improvement and reroofing project, the cottage was fitted with new, carefully designed ventilation systems in the kitchen, bathroom and shower room. In addition, a new dehumidifier, with HEPA air filter, was installed in the kitchen. The main objective of this work was to control humidity and prevent condensation caused by cooking, baths and showers etc within this old, stone-built cottage. You imply that the dehumidifier runs continuously, but that is not the case. It operates automatically as required to maintain a set humidity level, and the condensate it produces is piped away via the cottage drainage system, so no guest intervention is required in its operation. We ask guests not to switch it off so that it can fulfil its function in preventing condensation.
The design and the construction work were subject to the usual local authority building control approvals, and we have received the building control completion certificate, confirming compliance with building regulations.
By coincidence, the cottage was inspected by the owner on the Friday of your arrival (20/8/21), together with the architect responsible for the improvement project. This was a final quality check, prior to closure of the contract with the building contractor. The architect confirmed that the new systems described above were all found to be functioning as intended, with no evidence of damp, condensation or musty smells during the visit.
You did not raise any concerns to us during your stay and you did not respond to the owner's courtesy text that he sent to the mobile number you provided to check all was well on the day of your arrival.
We take the concerns you have now raised very seriously and, if you could provide further specific information to us via email about the issues that arose during your stay, then we will of course investigate further.
Thank you for your kind comments about the views, grounds, and standard of upkeep at Pwll Cottage.
