“A wonderful, roomy cottage, with a good size private garden.”

The cottage had everything we needed and more. Right next to a variety of shops and pubs and cafés, yet still very peaceful. A short walk to beaches, river and moorland. We're thinking of booking again.

“We had a really lovely week at Trefasser, one of the best holiday homes we've ever stayed in after 25 years of visiting Pembrokeshire which we love.”

The house had everything we needed, a home from home and so welcoming. The sun streams in, in the morning giving the house such a bright aspect and overlooking a lovely private garden. The owners of Trefasser are so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Due to us leaving a few items in a cupboard on our departure, we had to rush back to claim them, so got to meet the housekeeper who was a delightful lady. We loved every moment of our stay and can highly recommend.

“Trefasser is equipped to a very high standard and the large garden is delightful.”

I knew the house before the current owners bought it and can only admire all they have done to make Trefasser an extremely comfortable place to stay. It is ideally situated near the village shops as well as being within walking distance of estuary, beach and coastal path walks, as well as hill and mountain walks above Newport on Carn Ingli.. To be able to park near one`s house in Newport is a real bonus.

“We thoroughly enjoyed staying in Newport.”

It was a beautiful place with lots of good restaurants, walks and independent shops. The cottage was clean and tidy and a great space, well equipped. We did have a problem with the back door being swollen due to the wet winter. We have been told a new one is on order. Once this is done we would give it 5 stars.

“Trefasser was a very nice cottage and we did enjoy staying there a few small things I would recommend such as supplying hand wash instead of the soap it makes such a mess, the kitchen utensils are very basic as are the oven trays and pans upgrading them would make such a difference to the quality feel of the property, we were going to vacuum through but found the vac dust container absolutely packed solid it had not been emptied for a long time being asthmatic I was not going to do it.”

“Trefasser cottage was wonderful, so homely and very well equipped!”

Location was very quiet and the Newport village had everything you could think; antique shop, butchers and fruit & veg, little supermarket, small museum, cafes, pizza restaurant, ice cream parlour and much more. There was so much to explore in the whole of Pembrokeshire and we tried to visit as many recommended places as we could in one week. Coastal walks were one of our favourite things to do, especially the visits to Whitesand Bay and Poppit Sands Beach. Maybe just a couple of little snags, all bathrooms did not provide enough or no facilities for us to keep the the toilets clean at all times during our stay. The mattresses were not very comfortable as it was too firm and we struggled to sleep most of the time. Other than that, the cottage was immaculate, garden was spacious and the rooms were very cosy.

Regarding the cleaning products, there is always a premium quality toilet cleaner in each bathroom, and a range of other cleaning products in the cupboard. We are sorry that you found the beds uncomfortable, however we have not had any other adverse comments about them. It is difficult to cater for people’s diverse preferences. “The cottage is located in the centre of Newport, making it an ideal location for local restaurants, shops etc.”

The cottage is so comfortable, clean and well maintained and equipped. The owners were so helpful in contacting us to provide contact numbers if we needed them and welcomed us to their property. The instructions for use of kitchen equipment were very useful and everything provided was of a very high standard. “There are many positives about this cottage.”

Firstly the location of Newport and the cottage's location within the village. You are right in the heart of the village with great pubs, places to eat and pokey around shops with the beach a 10 minute walk away, yet we found it to be very quiet in the cottage. The kitchen new and is good, although the ergonomics are terrible, the upstairs shower room is modern and good, although the shower itself could do to be much bigger. There was plenty of space for hanging clothes as well as drawer space. One of the reasons we chose the cottage was the king size bed which was very comfortable, however a 13.5 tog duvet in July was way too hot, we just slept with the empty duvet cover. The garden was brilliant and it wasn't overlooked. It was great having decent chairs and a table in the shed. We wouldn't choose to stay here again, however, for several reasons. Firstly, the living room looks comfortable, but the sofas and chair need replacing as the cushion pads are done. The TV is really basic and we would consider a smart TV/ Fire stick a basic requirement in a cottage priced as a 'good standard'. The downstairs bathroom is very dated and we didn't bother trying to have a bath as the hot water was on an immersion and there's no way it would fill the huge bath. The most irritating thing about staying there was the number of patronising laminated notes about things in the cottage. Whilst a few notes were useful, most were unnecessary and made us feel like the owners think all their guests are stupid. We were only given 2 toilet rolls for the week and had to buy more, which we've not had the do for years in a rented cottage. There were very few extras, there were no boxes of tissues and the bars of hand soap in the bathrooms were very basic. It all felt very mean as was a lack of a 'welcome gift'.

For the sake of potential customers reading your review, we must clarify the matter about the hot water. It is heated by the gas boiler on a timer which can easily be boosted to give as much hot water as may be needed to fill the bath, or use otherwise. Please be assured that we are taking all your comments seriously and will do what we can to rectify matters, although some of the issues you raise are down to personal preferences and needs. “An excellent spacious cottage right in the heart of Newport and just a few minutes walk from pubs, shops and restaurants, and 10 minutes to the estuary and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.”

The property also has a pleasant, spacious large garden at the rear. Although listed as a 2 bed property, it is actually a 3-bed (with a private room for the owners when they are using the cottage), hence why it is larger than might be imagined. We had a great break and Newport is a lovely small town with great walks and estuary/sea views. Highly recommended!

“This is a lovely cottage in a fantastic location, both for enjoying the local seaside, and for exploring further afield.”

Good beaches are within walking distance, as are hill-walks behind the village. Although it is located close to the main road giving access to the many beaches and towns in Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, it is in one of the village's quiet streets. There is a good range of shops within easy reach, and a fantastic pub a couple of minutes walk away. There is a good-sized private garden. The house is spotless and well-furnished, with good-sized rooms, and plenty of games and DVDs to keep you entertained if the weather is unfavourable. The new kitchen is well-equipped with everything you could need. We had a lovely stay and would return.

“Trefasser was everything we needed.”

It was warm, comfortable and cosy. The weather was mixed and cool so we didn't use the garden, which was a shame as it looked lovely and enticing. Almost the best thing about Trefasser was its location. It is an old stone house with thick walls, set in a very attractive, historic, central part of Newport, very safe and quiet, yet a stone's throw from shops (which included a lovely art gallery), pubs and bus stop, and ten minutes walk from the picturesque coast and old port at Parrog. Just two minutes walk above Trefasser are the old church and remains of Newport Castle, in a lovely, interesting part of the village. For the nature-lover there is a wonderful reserve on the estuary. Here and at Parrog you are on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail, but great walks also extend inland to the Preseli Hills. We were easily able to explore not just parts of Pembrokeshire but also much of the coast further up the coast of Ceredigion.

Newport is a beautiful coastal town in Pembrokeshire, south west Wales lying on the River Nevern with a selection of shops, pubs, tea rooms, plus an excellent golf course overlooking the sea as well as a lovely sheltered harbour. Newport lies on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path which is renowned worldwide for its unique landscape and wonderful opportunities to go dolphin and seal spotting. Wonderful coastal walks along the path or in the nearby Preseli Hills with the ever changing scenery are a walkers dream all year round. Learn about history when you visit the mills, craft centres and castles dotted around the county or spend a day at the wonderful Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort where you can learn hands on all about living during that time.
