A day out to Manorbier

Manorbier Beach

The village of Manorbier is rich in history – in fact, archaeologists have found unique artefacts in the surrounding area dating all the way back to the Neolithic period! As you walk along the cliff footpath, you’ll pass by a landmark known as ‘King’s Quoit’, an ancient burial chamber dating back over 11,000 years. Even if you’re not much of a history buff, you’ll still find plenty of things to see and do here.

Much of the village and the surrounding areas are part of the scenic Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, so there’s plenty of choices when it comes to picturesque walking routes. With its sandy beach, dramatic sea cliffs, and quaint village streets, it’s quite easy to see why it’s become a popular visitor attraction.

Are there any amenities within the village?

A small village of narrow residential streets which harbour a pub (The Castle Inn), tea rooms, restaurant and a local shop. There is also a castle at Manorbier and although it is in private hands the castle is open to the public. It’s well worth a visit as it contains a lovely garden and children will love exploring the towers.

Visiting the castle

Sat on the clifftops, Manorbier Castle watches over Pembrokeshire’s glittering coast. This Norman fortress dates back over 900 years and offers a unique insight into what life was like for those in the village during the late 11th century. Incredibly well-preserved, this mighty castle has become a popular venue for weddings – as you can imagine, wedding photos are absolutely spectacular from here!

What about local walks?

Below the castle is Manorbier Beach, popular with locals and tourists and a lovely section of the All Wales Coast Path is accessible from both sides of the beach here.

We’d recommend trying the Manorbier to Freshwater East Trail, which takes you through the village and over to the golden sands of Freshwater East. This wide beach is an excellent place for dog walkers – with miles and miles of sand for them to run wild. Ideal if you’ll be stopping in one of our dog-friendly cottages!

Where can you park?

Parking is charged for at the beach car park, there are public conveniences situated here too and an ice cream van frequents the car park during the summer months.
