Enjoying a secluded setting in the heart of the Preseli hills in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Plas y Bangor (The House on the Great Bank) makes a fabulous getaway. The cottage is tucked away down a track, surrounded by pasture and woodland with valley views from each room.
Footpaths criss-cross the land giving immediate access to many miles of walking in an area of unspoilt beauty, steeped in history and folklore.
Pentre Ifan burial chamber, probably the most iconic Cromlech in Wales, is a pleasant half hour walk through country lanes passing by Ty Canol wood; part of the largest block of ancient woodland in West Wales.
Just downstream is the rocky outcrop where the bluestones for Stonehenge were extracted (see photo of excavation).
The seaside town of Newport is 10 minute drive and offers a variety of individual shops and galleries, good eateries, welcoming pubs and a Local Produce Market every Monday.
Nearby beaches include, Newport Sands, Parrog, Pwllgwaeold, Cwm yr Eglwys and Poppit Sands.
The towns of Cardigan, Fishguard, Narberth and Newcastle Emlyn are worth exploring too.
The cottage has been thoughtfully extended to provide a welcoming and wholesome environment; there is an eclectic range of local arts and crafts collected by the owners over the years making it quirky and individual.
Entrance is into the original cottage which is now one large, light and airy open plan area with whitewashed beams, wrap around windows, wooden flooring and a multi-fuel stove.
The KITCHEN area has a range of handmade wooden cupboards, electric hob, double oven and grill, larder fridge, microwave oven and plenty of pots and pans.
The DINING area has an oak table, 6 chairs (more available) and a Welsh dresser.
The SITTING area has wrap around windows with great valley views.
There are 2 comfy and well-worn three seater sofas around the multi-fuel stove, a coffee table, TV and occasional tables and chairs providing space for games or writing. The cottage is WiFi enabled and there is a large selection of books and games for all tastes and ages.
Off the hallway there is a UTILITY ROOM (unheated) with washing machine, indoor washing line, sink, freezer, beer fridge (not fancy but useful) and plenty of space for walking boots and coats.
There is an iron & board in the landing cupboard.
The downstairs SHOWER ROOM has a tiled shower, WC and basin.
The split staircase leads to three bedrooms.
BEDROOM 1 is above the original cottage and has exposed A frame beams and has glazed doors leading to a balcony with valley views.
It's furnished with a king size bed, bedside tables, lamps, chest of drawers, clothes hanging space and a comfy armchair.
BEDROOM 2 has a super king size bed, bedside tables, lamps, chest of drawers, hanging rail and chairs.
There is also a hand basin.
Glazed doors and steps lead you into the garden.
BEDROOM 3 has twin beds, bedside chest and tables with lamps, clothes hanging space and a glazed door stepping into the garden.
The FAMILY BATHROOM (adjacent to bedroom 1) has a suite of bath, WC and basin.
A large natural garden surrounds the cottage with some mown areas and other left wild.
A gate leads to the neighbouring fields which belong to the cottage and you are welcome to wander through them.
There is a terrace in front of the cottage with a large table, benches, 2 recliners and a barbecue making it perfect for al-fresco meals.
Parking for up to 4 cars on the drive and in the grassy bay off the track.
Heating is by night storage heaters and the multi-fuel stove.
A complimentary basket of logs is provided for your arrival and more can be purchased from the local country store.
A cot and highchair are available (no stairgate).
A landline at the cottage is used on an honesty basis.
Sorry, no pets and no smoking.
One of the sofas can convert to a bed for occasional use - bedding will not be supplied.
