“As soon as we walked into the property we were aware of a strong smell of heating oil fumes, couldn't locate the key for patio doors so had to phone Rhys,as I was on the phone to him Sonia ,Rhys wife arrived to collect a small bag of rubbish from previous guests, must say both lovely people.”

Found key opened doors to let fresh air in Sonia agreed about the smell, she thought it may have been that the cleaner had done a deep clean of the oven that day and that may have explained it.Anyway,Sonia walked outside with us and apologized for the large section of fence that was broken and laying on the floor awaiting repairs.I told her not to worry it wasn't an issue for us but just be aware if you arrive with children due to the rusty screws that are facing upward.Sonia left and I had to ...

Found key opened doors to let fresh air in Sonia agreed about the smell, she thought it may have been that the cleaner had done a deep clean of the oven that day and that may have explained it.Anyway,Sonia walked outside with us and apologized for the large section of fence that was broken and laying on the floor awaiting repairs.I told her not to worry it wasn't an issue for us but just be aware if you arrive with children due to the rusty screws that are facing upward.Sonia left and I had to phone Rhys again as the open door wasn't helping,he explained he was 75 miles away and would contact his plumber because they had had a leak from the oil tank a few weeks previously. As promised the plumber arrived promptly, couldn't see a leak but thought the fumes were coming in through holes in wall where heater controls are so he sealed the area with silicone which seemed to solve the issue, another nice chap.Whist the living area was nicely finished with quality fittings, after the plumber left,we decided to finally unpack and went into the downstairs bedroom.Although we were aware of damp issues around the windows from looking at reviews from previous 3 years what we greeted with was not a great impression, the dap was really bad, even the paint was flaking off on the bedroom wall, not good at all.same upstairs but just around the window. However we had a good nights sleep all week as the bed was comfortable. As the week went on, especially with heating on we could see the fumes coming up past the kitchen window quite clearly, which means it would be impossible to open the window there as fumes would be directly into the property.Couldnt fault the views, stunning. The wildlife was great to see too, rabbits, foxes, red kites and if course the cattle .This property has been on our favourite list with Sykes for quite a while but as the saying goes, you don't get a second chance to make a first impression.Such a shame that cable cottage is not getting the TLC it deserves.Has the potential to be first class.

The property

Cable Cottage is a truly unique property with its superb cliff top location on the north Pembrokeshire coast.

It was originally one of several cable huts, used to house some of the first communication cables laid under the Atlantic.

The local owners have taken great care when renovating the cottage to retain its character and charm.

The cottage is well appointed, which is apparent immediately upon entry.

It is in an exceptional location, commanding spectacular panoramic sea views over Fishguard Harbour, out towards the Irish Sea and up the dramatic coastline towards Dinas Head.

Guests will enjoy walking the coast path which is just one field away, and can be approached through the owner's farmland below the cottage.

This is an excellent base to explore a selection of sandy beaches and coves which are renowned for some of the best swimming and surfing in the county.
