Thatched Cottage at Merthyr Mawr

Merthyr Mawr is a pretty little Village situated some 2.5 miles from Bridgend in South Wales. What attracts people here are the pretty thatched cottages that make this Village possibly the most chocolate box Village in Wales.

Nearby also is the Merthyr Mawr National Nature Reserve, which fronts onto a huge beach that stretched from the mouth of the Ogmore River all the way west to Trecco Bay. The reserve is mostly a huge series of sand dunes. At the entrance to the dunes you will also find the ruins of Candleston Castle which is open to the public.

Nearby is Ogmore castle which is also open to the public.

If you fancy a bite to eat whilst visiting, The Watermill on Ogmore Road (B4524) serves ‘classic British grub’ or you could try the Pelican – also on Ogmore Road.
