You’ll find an eclectic choice of music festivals in Wales every year. From the chilled-out sounds of folk and country to upbeat jazz and dance, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Of course, we’re certainly not forgetting the annual National Eisteddfod! This famous Welsh festival is a celebration of music, arts, and poetry and has been running since 1176. The venue for the National Eisteddfod changes every year and attracts over 150,000 people. Prefer things a little jazzier? We’ve got plenty of incredible jazz festivals taking place up and down the country, as well as the ever-popular Lost Cove Surf Festival and Gottwood Festival for younger crowds.

1. Lost Cove Surf Festival

Location: Pembrokeshire, South West Wales

Genre: Jungle, DnB, House, Disco & more

The Lost Cove Surf Festival showcases some of the best talents in the local live music and DJ scene. Hosted on the sparkling coast of St Davids, it’s the ultimate weekend away for keen surfers  – there’s even a surfing competition with big prizes up for grabs! You’ll also get to enjoy a number of interactive workshops, including daily yoga sessions by the beach, DJ classes, and frisbee workshops.

Waun Beddau is a two-bedroom home in Pembrokeshire, just a few minutes drive from St Davids. The coastal bus passes by the cottage every day, giving you easy access to all the nearby landmarks – especially useful if you’ll be heading over to the festival.


2. Fire in the Mountain

Location: Ceredigion, Mid Wales

Genre: Folk

The Fire in the Mountain Festival in Ceredigion has a real community feel to it. Started by a group of friends who shared a love of folk and bluegrass music, the festival is held on their farm in Aberystwyth each year. Among the many folk music acts, there are also tuition classes for music and square dancing in the main field. Ever wanted to learn how to play a banjo? What we really like about Landed Festival is that there’s a focus on affordable food and drinks – something that is quite rare in some of the larger festivals in the UK! The festival is held on a beautiful Welsh country estate, offering an incredibly scenic backdrop.

4. The National Eisteddfod

The National Eisteddfod is a huge event, bringing together talent from all across the country to celebrate the language and culture in Wales. From Llanrwst to Llanelli, the event is hosted somewhere new every year, making it a different experience every time you visit. It’s not all about the music though – visitors can browse through hundreds of trade stands and stalls selling locally-made crafts and delicious produce.


5. Westival

Location: Pembrokeshire, South West Wales

Genre: Dance and more

Westival is an underground music and arts festival, set within the beautiful surroundings of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The vibrant and varied line up offers something for everyone across the three stages; from garage to breakbeat and everything in between, there’s always a seriously impressive variety of acts at Westival. Just five minutes from the beach, it’s the ideal festival for your next summer holiday.
